Week 12 Investigative Journalism
When I read “Investigation” the first that has ever come to
my mind is Sherlock Holmes and Meg Cabot. Well here we are talking about
Investigative journalism, which, in simple words, is discovering the truth and
reality of something. A journalist is not only an active participant, but is
the voice for those who cant stand against the power.
John Pilger, an International Investigative Journalist said
“It is not enough for journalists to see
themselves as mere messengers without understanding the hidden agendas of the
message and myths that surround it.”
As a
journalist, some of the main investigative interactions are
Interviewing,
Observations, Documents, Briefings, Trespass, Leaks and Thefts.
Talking
about the threats, the first threat is the online
news, where due to less income, very less people want to go into this field
that ultimately leads to less exposure to this field. The second threat is the public interest, where only selective
amount of facts and information are used, and there is a lot of dogging of
actual matter. This leads to the end of Investigative journalism.
The topic of
Investigative journalism reminds me strongly of one of the murder mystery of a
14-year-old girl named Aarushi, where her parents have been accused of
murdering their daughter.
I really
like this field of Journalism, I do not only want to end up writing but
explore, investigate and interview. One thing, which I have mainly learnt from
this course, is that journalism is not for people who want to make money, but
for passionate people.
